Mellieha Bay or well-known as ‘Il-Ghadira’ meaning pool is the largest sandy beach in the Maltese islands. Mellieha Bay is a picturesque bay and a very popular holiday resort in the north-western area of Malta. The resort is about one mile from the hilltop village of Mellieha and approximately thirteen miles from the islands capital Valletta. Mellieha Bay has a long sandy beach and crystal clear shallow waters making it an ideal holiday destination for families with small children. There are some stunning views for everyone to enjoy. If you are looking for a leisurely relaxed holiday in the sun this location may well suit you. Most holidaymakers here spend their days on the beach where you can hire a beach umbrella & sun lounger to relax. Apart from swimming there are water sports available including water skiing, parasailing and other water based fun activities such as pedalos and rides on a banana boat.

There are are beach bars and cafes should you wish for some refreshment while enjoying the beach area and in the evening, entertainment is mainly spent in the tavernas, bars and restaurant. L-Ghadira is a quite relaxed holiday resort compared to some of the major tourist spots. You can enjoy the sand and sea, water sports, some beautiful countryside walks, sightseeing, plus much more. The resort does become rather crowded in the high season. This beach is busy night and day. It’s ideal for children, very comfortably situated by the road so you don’t need to walk much.
