Mgarr ix-Xini is located close to Xewkija which is known for its majestic church. Mgarr ix-Xini is alleged to have been one of the harbours used by the Knights’ galleys. The entrance to this coastal inlet is guarded by a tower known as ‘It-torri tal-Mgarr ix-Xini’ which was built in the sixteen century to safeguard this inlet. It was built at the expense of the local Universitas on a plan by Mederico Blondel, an engineer of the Order of Saint John. It is possible to walk from the bay to the tower through a restored ancient footpath.
The bay has a small pebbly beach with captivating caves on cliff faces. This isolated spot is ideal for swimming and attractive to divers. One can dive to the intentionally wrecked ferry “Xlendi” even from this bay.
