Qormi Wine Festival

Qormi Wine Festival

This year, the annual Qormi Wine Festival marks its fifth edition – a festival boasting a wide selection of local red, white and rosé wines of several grape varieties, provided by Marsovin.

The 2010 edition will be held at the heart of the village core that will be dressed up for the occasion, during the first weekend of September from Friday 3rd to Saturday 4th from 8.00pm until midnight.

Well renowned for its wine-making culture, Qormi is once again reviving this centuries’ old tradition while creating an added attraction for locals and foreigners at this time of year. The Qormi Wine Festival is fast establishing itself in the annual calendar of events, attracting around 10,000 patrons. Foreigners mostly appreciate the local festive feel as it unveils another aspect of Maltese traditions. This event is a feast of Maltese culture, arts, and traditions – making it the main event for the cultural and tourism sector in the month of September.

Five separate wine stalls will be set up alongside Main Street Qormi, with the characteristic St George’s Parish acting as a fitting backdrop to the typical festive setting. Several food stalls featuring Mediterranean cuisine including local traditional food and sweets, will be available at €6 per dish.

Besides food and wine, this fifth consecutive edition of the festival sees the participation of more than 90 artistes including bands, soloists and folk groups performing on three different stages.

Several exhibitions and competitions will also be held during the two days, including wine and floral competitions.

Entrance to the Qormi Wine Festival is free of charge. Those wishing to try out the several wines on offer should purchase a specially-designed souvenir wine glass for the price of €8, which will then be theirs to keep. The challenge is then to try out as many wines as can be!

Wines will be served until 11.30pm. Those under 16 years of age will not be served any wine but may still enjoy the events quenching their thirst at the beverages stall.
